Health Information for Veterans Now Easier to Access
Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (HHIE) is playing a key role in making the health information of U.S. veterans more easily accessible to Hawai‘i providers.
HHIE subscribers can access the data of all veterans who are participating in the data exchange and have received care at any of the 152 Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and nearly 1,400 community-based outpatient clinics in the United States, U.S. territories such as American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands as well as the Philippines. The facilities are run by the Veterans Health Administration, which is part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
In Hawai‘i, the VA operates the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System in Honolulu, community-based outpatient clinics in Hilo and Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island; Kahului, Maui; and Lihue, Kauai; and a PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Program in Hilo.
HHIE subscribers can access the data of the participating veterans in the Community Health Record under the Documents tab. If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Burton, MD, HHIE’s Medical Director, at (808) 441-1429 or rburton@hawaiihie.org.
